H.J. Heinz Co. has selected Interpublic Group’s UM to support media buying and planning in the U.S. and Canada and Omnicom Media Group to handle its larger international business.

H.J. Heinz has named two new media partners following a review that kicked off last November: Omnicom’s OMG networks were awarded planning and buying responsibility for all international markets while Interpublic’s UM won those media responsibilities for Heinz in the U.S. and in Canada, sources said.

After a competitive pitch against incumbent agency, Carat, UM Malaysia has been named Southern Lion’s official media and digital agency of record. As of April, UM now handles the $18 million business including media buying, planning, strategy, and digital.
